High density housing in Oviedo, Spain

Ventilated façade:

We decided to use this technique as one of the most successful ones in terms of energy efficiency and damage prevention in construction. The air buffer created around the building by this “glass envelope” helps achieving a much better thermal behaviour thus cutting on energy bills and CO2 emissions.

Visual impact

These four 15-storey buildings were supposed to make a big impact in this part of Oviedo, so we came up with a strategy to lower this impact. This city is known nation wide for its clean, blue-grey sky so we sought for a mimetic behaviour to help our buildings blend in with the environment. We achieved it by using tempered-laminated glass and a vinyl sheet with a graphic pattern to resemble and reflect the surrounding clouds.
